Mother, I am born
Cord of life is torn
And, to give me rest
I am at thy breast

Father, I am come
Is there but a crumb
Mother, this is best
I am at thy breast

Never again will I feel what I feel at this time
Having been born, it won't cost me a penny or dime
Do they not know that the best food is given at birth
Give me thy breast and its milk, do you not know its worth

Brother, welcome back
Is this what you lack
Sister, bare thy chest
I am at thy breast

Mother, I am yours
Go now, do thy chores
And, then, when you rest
I am at thy breast

Never again will I feel what I feel at this time
Having been born, it won't cost me a penny or dime
Do they not know that the best food is given at birth
Give me thy breast and its milk, do you not know its worth

Mother, I am born
Cord of life is torn
And, to give me rest
I am at thy breast
