I HEARD A VOICE

I heard a voice deep inside my brain
It spoke to me of toils and of pain
The voice of Love: it was the voice I heard
My heart inside at once was burned
When I knew what I had learned

I heard a voice somewhere in my mind
It told me how all men of Earth were blind
The voice of Hope: it was the voice I heard
My thoughts began to cry, yet pray
For a new love, dawning day

I heard a voice somewhere in my head
It told me how all men would soon be dead
The voice of Death: it was the voice I heard
The tears flow down from burning eyes
When I think and realise

I heard a voice deep inside my skull
It told me how all Life would be annulled
The voice of Blood: it was the voice I heard
My prayers fly upwards to my God
When I think where men have trod

I heard a voice crying out in pain
It told me how the end has come again
The voice of Fear: it was the voice I heard
I feel the rays of torturing heat
And burning cinders on my feet
