I'm only a boy, but I can understand
I'm only a boy, but I can be a man
And though I'm only eighteen
I know where life began

I'm only a boy, the difference can be seen
I'm only a boy, the time-length inbetween
Is so remotely parted
My kingdom is my queen

I'm only a boy, but still I have a soul
I'm only a boy, my brain I must control
My feelings are unnatural
When I am never whole

I'm only a boy, but many lives I've known
I'm only a boy, my inner eye has shown
The wonders of my Maker
His world is now full-grown

I'm only a boy who cannot read or write
I'm only a boy who's still afraid at night
But, when I pray to true Love
He gives to me my sight
