During the late 1960s, I re-read Marvel Comics' Sgt Fury and the Howling Commandos series in my comic book collection at the time, and became inspired to write a novelette about a squad of female fighters.

The result was The Female Commandoes, an adventure/war story about a group of women who take on Nazi forces during World War II. This was also the first novel I wrote with some rather lurid sex scenes. My mum found this novel, read it, and was, of course, appalled that I could write such 'filth'.

[I would also use this idea in the future as the basis of my movie script, The Amazon Squad]

Along with Zorab, The Hidden City of A-Ten, and The Return to A-Ten, The Female Commandoes was somehow lost during my frequent moves in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
